Preening Swan by Chris Boone
$ 144.00
The preen gland, is an essential part of preening. This gland is found near the base of the tail and produces an oily substance that contains waxes that help waterproof feathers and keep them flexible. While preening, birds spread this oil to each feather so they are evenly coated and protected.
Master Carver, Chris Boone began carving decoys at the age of twelve. His first carving tools were a gift from his parents who greatly influenced Chris to choose a career in the arts. His carvings are primitive styled wooden sculpture from old world, modern and life reference. Favorite woods of Chris to carve from are cedar, pine and various hardwoods from the bountiful forests of North Carolina. He personally chooses each section of tree before beginning each sculpture. Shape and form are defined from the unique characteristics of every piece of wood. Chris further hones the natural essences by purposefully leaving lichen bark and moss attached making each one an original. A fine hand finish is applied to each bird to bring out subtle grain patterns and enhancing the colors of the wood while keeping an antiqued style. Chris's 30 years of wood work has turned a hunter's tool into fine pieces of art.
All of our decoys are handcrafted, each with its own unique character and appearance. Please know that your decoy is one-of-a-kind and will vary from the photo.
