Angels Holding Birds with Flower by Susan Daul
$ 122.00
Fraktur is both a style of lettering and a highly artistic and elaborate illuminated folk art that was influenced by European folk culture. Here in America, the Pennsylvania Germans practiced Fraktur art from the mid-18th to the mid-19th centuries. Fraktur blossomed into a uniquely rich, colorful and iconographic form of expression and were tied to rites of social life, such as birth and baptismal certificates, marriage and house blessings, book plates as well as floral and figurative scenes.
Susan Daul's Fraktur art has been recognized in Early American Life Magazine's Directory of Craftsmen for eight consecutive years, and she was awarded Best of Show honors in the first Mount Vernon Crafts Fair. Susan was also commissioned to design original Fraktur for Old Salem's Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts and an exclusive design for Early American Life Magazine.
